How to set up a survey embedded in your email

Our email embedded channel allows you to send out an NPS survey using your own email. We provide you with some basic html for each scoring link and then you can completely customize the content and design of the email.

This is great if you’re looking to ensure your NPS survey fully aligns with your corporate design, or if you are looking to incorporate NPS into other emails. A couple of common use cases here include adding NPS to newsletters, or to confirmation emails – in each of these scenarios you can potentially save sending your customers an extra email.

Getting started

Setting up the email embedded survey is a quick 5 step process:

  1. Create and customize the comment and thank you pages of your survey through our web interface

  2. On the implement step, we will generate a custom HTML snippet for you to use that contains links for each score (from 0 to 10)

  3. Embed the HTML into your email and customize it according to your needs (this will likely require technical support or a mail editor that supports easy input of HTML like Mailchimp)

  4. Add the survey question ("How likely are you to recommend X to a friend or colleague") and provide a guide to which ends of the scoring links represents promoters and detractors (we recommend the labels "very likely" for 10 and "very unlikely" for 0)                                                                                                       (Optional): You can also add recipient identity and properties

  5. Send out the survey!

Your HTML snippet should look something like this:

<table bgcolor="#f4f4f4" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" dir="rtl" style="direction:rtl;">
  <tbody>
    <tr>
      <th align="center" dir="ltr" style="direction:ltr; vertical-align:middle;" valign="middle" height="40" width="40"><a href="https://responses.zenloop.com/web/response/<survey_hash_id>/email_embed/10?is_a_test=false" style="display:block;text-decoration:none;color:#106AD7;font-size:16px;font-family:'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-weight:bold;">10</a></th>

Making changes

If you want to make changes to the email, you have complete control over the design. To make changes to the comment or thank you pages, use the edit function for that survey.

Solutions to common questions

Q – Will my email be responsive?

A – The responsiveness of your email (for instance having the scores appear vertically on mobile) will depend on the overall structure of your email.

__________________________________________________________________

Q – Is it possible to fully customise the comment and thank you pages of my survey?

A – Not yet. For us to track responses, it is important to direct recipients to our landing pages. However, if this feature is important to you – do let us know!

__________________________________________________________________

Q – How would I test the email?

A – You can add a is_a_test  flag to each of the scoring links, so that the responses are not counted:

https://responses.zenloop.com/web/response/<survey_hash_id>/email_embed/10?is_a_test=true

Keep in mind, that test responses will be automatically deleted after 24 hours and filters won't apply to them (thus, you wouldn't be able to see properties attached to these responses).

Q – What happens if someone answers a survey multiple times?

A – If the recipient has an identity, we will treat any further answers within 24 hours of the original answer as an update rather than a new answer. After that, we assume that it is a new answer.

For anonymous recipients, each new score will be treated as a new answer - since we can't differentiate between them! This makes it really useful to add an identity!
