Overview
Response properties are metadata submitted with a survey response.
Examples include an order ID, customer segment, country, support ticket ID, or source system.
Email workflows can use these properties as trigger conditions.
Non-empty response properties can also appear in the workflow notification email.
Add Response Properties to a Survey Link
Pass response properties in the survey URL using the properties[...] format.
Example URL parameters:
?identity[type]=email&identity[value]=user@example.com&properties[order_id]=12345&properties[country]=DE
In this example, identity[value] identifies the respondent.
The properties[order_id] parameter stores the order ID.
The properties[country] parameter stores the country.
zenSurveys stores these values with the response when the respondent submits the survey.
Create an Email Workflow
- Open Workflows.
- Select New Workflow.
- Choose Email Alert.
- Continue to the trigger settings.
- Enter a workflow name.
- Select the relevant survey.
- Use Filter by property if the workflow should run only for responses with specific property values.
- Complete the remaining notification settings.
- Review and activate the workflow.
When the workflow sends an email, non-empty response properties appear under Property details.
There is no separate setting for adding property details to the notification email.
Use Property Filters
Property filters decide whether a workflow should run for a response.
After selecting a survey, choose an available response property and configure the required condition.
The response must contain a matching stored value for the filter to match.
Limitations
- A property must be submitted and stored with the response before it can appear in an email.
- Properties with empty values are not shown.
- Response properties are separate from survey answers.
- Property support can differ between workflow channels.
- This article applies to Email Alert workflows.
- Avoid sending sensitive data to an inbox unless everyone with access is authorized to receive it.
