Survey Metrics Dashboard

Overview

zenSurveys includes a Metrics tab for individual surveys. It shows survey engagement data such as views, starts, completions, and question-level response breakdowns, so teams can see where respondents are entering, continuing, or dropping off.

Use the dashboard to understand how many people opened a survey, how many started answering, how many completed it, and which questions received answers.

How It Works

  1. Open a survey in zenSurveys.
  2. Select the Metrics tab.
  3. Use the date range selector to view metrics for a preset period or custom date range.
  4. Review the main engagement cards:
    • Survey Views — people who viewed the survey.
    • Survey Starts — responses where at least one question was answered.
    • Survey Completions — responses marked as complete.
  5. Check the Questions Breakdown of Responses chart to see how many responses each question received and what percentage of total responses answered it.

What the metrics mean

  • Survey Views are tracked survey opens for the selected date range. Identified respondents are counted once per survey, while anonymous viewers are counted once per viewer per day.
  • Survey Starts are saved responses where the respondent began answering.
  • Survey Completions are responses marked as complete.
  • Questions Breakdown of Responses counts non-empty answers per question and shows each question's share of total responses in the selected range.

Configuration

No additional setup is required once metrics are enabled for the survey. The Metrics tab appears for users who can view responses on surveys where metrics are enabled.

The dashboard supports preset date ranges such as today, yesterday, last 7 days, last 30 days, last 90 days, this week, last week, this month, last month, this quarter, this year, and all time. Custom start and end dates are also supported.

For date ranges that support comparison, the dashboard can show whether views, starts, and completions moved up, down, or stayed flat compared with the previous equivalent period.

Known Limitations

  • The Metrics tab is only shown on surveys where metrics are enabled and to users with response-viewing access.
  • Survey views depend on available view-tracking records. Views from before tracking was active, offline views, or views where tracking silently failed may not be counted.
  • Custom date ranges and all-time views do not use previous-period comparison.
  • Starts and completions are response-based. Deleted responses are excluded from the counts.
